REVIEW BOARD: Terminator Salvation

The $200M-budget film that some called the Rebirth of McG (if you ask me, the guy could’ve stopped using that moronic abbreviation of a name if he really wanted to make a clean break) finally came out last Thursday, only to be beaten at the Box-Office by…Ben Stiller. No offense Ben, but come on…
So, many months and a Christian Bale rant later, the film prophecized to cleanse our palate of a bad Jonathan Mostow-directed threequel is up for reviews, praise and criticism. And of course QSS was there this week to infuriate studio bosses by allowing tax-payers to watch the movie free of under-age popcorn throwers. What did QSS members think of it? Scroll down to find out.
Seen the film and feel like pitching in?
Head over to the Forum’s Discussion Thread on the Film. And if you watch the film from a link posted on QSS, Please don’t forget to thank posters and uploaders. QUALITY NOT WITHSTANDING!

From the Blog’s own Dark Room-gal, Urbangiggles:
I saw this at the theaters on Saturday and I liked it. Being someone who grew up with the movies (I watched the first and second one like no ones business when I was younger) and really enjoyed the third one, this was the weakest out of the four. I loved the ending to the movie Marcus offering his heart and Connor accepting the heart from a machine was pure gold to be honest. I think that is (or it should be) the basis of the movie: machines and humans actually getting along. Well at least for the next one, it seems there will be another one. But i don’t think the movie was horrible, I will watch it again. Like I said, compared to the rest, this one was not as good as they were. As for the Arnold cameo, I was expecting more, because he is the original. McG really should have done more with him. But not too much complaints from, it was entertaining and Connor, Barnes, and Marcus were very nice to look at Definitely no complaints there.
From Miaru:
Man I m disappointed. Weakest of the four I thought.
From BlakXzep:
Well at least I managed to watch the disappointing and horrible Arnold cameo. Damn that McG, never let him make a movie again!
From Loner614:
I thought McG did an ok job with this film, But I`m sure it will have its fair share of detractors.
From D34DT0Y:
I can’t say it was bad, but I don’t think it added much to the story. I can’t help but feel that I’ve seen it all before. I think i dozed off a couple times. Moon Bloodgood woke me up for a bit though. Yummy!
From Kabaal :
there were a couple of questions answered throughout the flick but for the most part it felt like a generic scifi/action movie and not really in keeping with the feel of the other movies (the first two mostly, i never really liked the 3rd all that much).
Perhaps it’s nostalgia or perhaps it’s because of the plethora of half decent sci fi flicks that are on tap now compared to back when t1 and t2 came out but i was a little disappointed in this one.
I’ll watch it again at the movies this week instead of online and my perspective may change, but i doubt it. I’d rate it as average at best but but by far not the worst movie i’ve watched in this genre, rating probably thrust down due to expectaions born of loving the 1st two so many years ago.

This week sees quite opposite releases in theatres: Pixar’s latest Oscar Contender UP and Sam Raimi’s return to roots Drag Me to Hell. Here’s what the IMDb says about them both:

Director: Pete Docter Bob Peterson
Stars: Edward Asner, Jordan Nagai, John Ratzenberger (Full Cast)
Studio: Buena Vista Pictures
The Plot: By tying thousands of balloon to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Right after lifting off, however, he learns he isn’t alone on his journey, since Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years his junior, has inadvertently become a stowaway on the trip.
THE BUZZ: Pixar takes to the skies again, this time with buddy-story specialists Pete Docter and Bob Peterson bringing the charm to us in 3D (in “select” theaters, anyway). These days, I support anything that strips away my senses of irony and sarcasm, and Up’s teaser trailer (located above) is wonderfully restorative. At Comic-Con last year, Docter described how the movie was influenced by an unreachable range of Venezuelan mountains, and a septuagenarian ’s wish to fulfill the dreams he made with his now-departed wife when he was a younger man. I got misty. Plus, Docter went on to say that his movie will have some easter eggs for upcoming Pixar projects. More news as Pixar/Disney leaks it.

Director: Sam Raimi
Stars: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Ruth Livier (Full Cast)
Studio: Universal Pictures
The Plot:A loan officer (Lohman) ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse which turns her life into a living nightmare. Desperate, she turns to a seer for help, and learns she only has a short period of time before she is literally ushered into Hell.
THE BUZZ: Foreclosure would be a kinda scary title, too … Check out Sam Raimi, returning to the horror genre before travels back to Marvel City for a couple more Spider-Man movies. With a tip of the hat to George A. Romero, Raimi has found a way to comment on the housing crisis, and I can imagine his tones will be bitter, wicked, and (hopefully) subtle. No offense to Ellen Page, but I am relieved she opted out of the movie, making room for Lohman, who is starting to take on more mainstream roles, albeit ones that are offbeat and, like, interesting.
But what is the film going to look like? And will it be funny? Here’s proof that the answer to both questions is YES!
And a quote from this year’s South by Southwest festival: “Any inkling that Raimi’s soul might have been irretrievably chewed up by the Hollywood studio machinery — a well-founded concern after the disappointing Spider-Man 3 — quickly evaporates once the story gets underway.”

Christian Bale is good but that new guy, Same Worthington, was great… in fact he pretty much stole the show
