Review Board: Drag my Hangover to the Museum
Posted by Arnprior on Jun 10, 2009 in News • No comments

It’s been two weeks since the Blog’s Review Board roamed QSS to bring you the finest in movie opinions, so we opened the flood gates and allowed a few of the recently-released movies to be opinionated on in here. If it made you want to watch them, well good – that’s what QSS was built for. If you watched them and feel like throwing tomatoes at someone, well good – That’s what we have Rowanaboat for….
Night at the Museum 2: Electric Boogaloo
Ben Stiller’s agent must be the luckiest mofo on earth. He convinces his star to sign on a film that even Mike Myers wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole, and the damn thing is so popular the studio gave it a $150M sequel. AND stiller got to star alongside Amy Adams. Maybe STILLER is the lucky guy after all… Here’s what some of us thought of it.
From TerriKhali:
IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD! If you liked the 1st one, this one might even be BETTER!
So many laughs, what an EXCELLENT movie, for ALL AGES!!!!!!!!
Loved it!
Thank you EVERYONE that has kept the links coming!
From Ryder:
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the sequel but I found myself laughing through out the whole thing. In the beginning credits I kept thinking one of them was going to get broken, lol.
From Glacier 2000:
very nice! fantastic special effects!!
From Ladyhawk:
just finished watching it and really enjoyed it. Had the funny, slapstick humor and all the bells and whistles from the first one - only more. The guy from Superbad and Ben Stiller had fabulous chemistry. We were laughing out loud.
Drag me to Hell
Sam Raimi’s return to the Horror genre was highly anticipated by film geeks like yours truly, and although the reviews are mixed, one thing’s for sure: It washes off that bad Spider-Man 3 lingering aftertaste.
From my favourite Dark-Roomie Urbangiggles:
I saw this on Friday at the theaters and I just could not help it. I honestly wanted to sit in my seat and wait until the next showing. This movie is so good. I have been waiting for a horror movie to be this good for a while. I just want to say, finally a good horror movie comes out here in America that we did not take from the Asians and.or remake from the 70s. I was waiting for the originality and I got it. Sam Raimi has redeemed himself from the lackluster Spiderman 3. I also heard that an Evil Dead 4 is in the works, so I am also really, really excited about that. Raimi is back people! I know some people won’t like it, but I love horror movies and this had everything I could ask for. Thank you Sam Raimi for coming back to what you do best, making kickass horror movies!
From D34DT0Y:
I really enjoy this movie! It definitely was back to Sam Raimi horror. A lot of scenes reminded me of the over-the-top stuff that Evil Dead had. I was also glad to see that not only did his car make a cameo, but it was in the movie so much I think it was one of the lead actors.
From Winnie1:
finally watch, not as good as i expect, although it has killer ending. worth watching
From dadsarmy
It was ok,rani’s evil dead scenes were partly in this film, but this film was not original, blatantly script was from night of the demon imdb
The Hangover
If it wasn’t for Bradley Cooper (the rumoured new Face Man -update: according to THIS REPORT from Joblo.com, Cooper is officially FaceMan) I wouldn’t have noticed that one, and ever since I did it seems everyone’s talking about it. Except on QSS – discussion was a little low, but still, one of us wrote in with an opinion.
From Henni112:
What a funny/great movie.
Messed up thing is I can relate a bit w/ this. Life is like a movie just with out the back ground music.
A few other “big” films opened in theatres recently, but thus far failed to generate much discussion, if any, among the QSS community. If you happened to have seen UP, Land of the Lost or any of this season’s blockbuster offerings, head on to the forum’s Discuss Movies section and let everyone share in your own reviews and opinions. They might very well be the subject of the Blog’s next Review Board.
Many of this year’s hotly anticipated films have already been on or even left the marquee, but the summer ain’t over yet! This week sees two widely different releases, each relatively anticipated. First, Denzel once again obliges Tony Scott in yet another Why-in-God’s-Name-Did-They remake, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (folks, just watch the original, a’ight?? Travolta has nothing on Robert Shaw, and Walter Matthau WAS old, instead of just looking it…). Then more interestingly is a movie that already has critics whispering AWARDS, the Sam Rockwell one-man-show titled simply Moon. Here’s what the IMDb has to say on both of them.

Director: Duncan Jones
Stars: Sam Rockwell (Full Cast)
Studio: Sony Pictures Classics
The Plot: Astronaut Sam Bell (Rockwell) has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet’s power problems.
THE BUZZ: Writer-director Duncan Jones is the son of David Bowie, but I swear: If anyone uses the term “space oddity” to describe this movie, I will petition to have their blog shut down. What this film really is: A wonderfully composed, thoughtful, even funny addition to the list of elite science-fiction films, which offers a major twist in its first act. A couple grumps have panned it — though high marks are always given to the look of the production — I would trust the opinions of two of the better bloggers in the game.
Director: Tony Scott
Stars: Denzel Washington, John Travolta (Full Cast)
Studio: Columbia Pictures
The Plot: Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garbe (Washington) into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime (Travolta).
THE BUZZ: It’s Deja-Vu all over again as Scott and Denzel reunite for this remake of a remake. I can’t help but wonder if the hijackers in this version will still ask for one meeee-lee-ion dollars or if today’s New Yorkers would seriously sit in a subway car with these goons for an hour (even if one of ‘em looked like an aging Tony Manero). Somehow, I don’t think so.
